  • The Enchanted Cat

Vincent Bennett, Marion Farrier, Jonathan Bennett

    language (, Aug. 29, 2012)
Archie is a young artist on holiday in Cornwall. He has an adventure that starts with a decision to follow an unexplored path on Bodmin Moor. Before long he comes across a sad and lonely King, whose only companion is a fiercely protective knight. His kingdom has fallen into ruin under the spell of an old Witch. Archie promises to help lift the spell and restore the kingdom to its former prosperity by passing three tests set by the Witch. Archie, helped by the Prime Pisky of Cornwall, encounters Davey Jones, a fearsome two-headed giant and some flying salamanders in his quest. The tests—ones that are quite appropriate for an artist like Archie—plunge him to the depths of the ocean and take him soaring to the Sun. There is, of course, an enchanted cat, who is central to the whole story.Vincent Bennett was an accomplished Plymouth artist (1910 -1993). This children’s short story is illustrated by Vincent’s own work and was written around 1950. A foreword written by his son, Jonathan, explains further why this work has never before been published. “The Enchanted Cat” is a genuine first edition, residing only in the digital domain as an e-book.
